Gurmmeet Singh began his career in New Delhi as an editor way back in 1999 in days of analog technology. From working in Doordarshan, to music videos to Ladakhi feature films, he was fortunate to get a exposure to very diverse storytelling.
In 2003 his journey in feature films began as an assistant director on films like ‘Let’s Enjoy’, ‘Chai Pani etc’ and ‘Ramji Londonwale’. With a strong work ethic he soon became one of the top Assistant Director’s in the country. Going on to work in landmark films such as, ‘Gandhi My Father’, ‘Don’ and ‘Jodhaa Akbar’.
He made the leap into the director’s chair in 2013 with two back to releases ‘Warning 3D’ and ‘What The Fish’. 2015 saw his third feature film release, ‘Sharafat Gayi Tel Lene’. His recent work includes Mirzapur: The Movie and Phone Bhoot.
With modest box office returns, the arrival of OTT streaming platforms came as a second lease of life as his directorial career took an upswing with ‘Inside Edge’ and then the iconic ‘Mirzapur’ series.
Now after having successfully directed three seasons of the successful franchise, he has brought Mirzapur to the big screens and the film is currently writing records at the box office.
