| Bio | ARUNAVA GANGOPADHYAY, a Kolkata-based filmmaker, finished his graduation from Calcutta University. After that, he started learning ‘digital editing’ from Chitrabani and writing scripts independently. In 2015, he worked as an associate director in two consecutive short films: ‘ Kintsukuroi’ and ‘Elixir’. Both had been shown in the Short Film Corner at the Cannes Film Festival. After that, he co-wrote and co-directed a Bengali feature film ‘Hoyto Manush Noy’, along with his friend, in 2016. This film was released in 2018. That same year, he started shooting a feature-length documentary on the rise and evolution of Bengali science fiction literature, named ‘KALPAVIGYAN: a speculative journey’, which was finished and released in 2022. This film has travelled to 13 international film festivals (including the 47th Boston Science Fiction Film Festival) and won 4 awards (including Best Director Award from the 6th Pumpkin International Film Festival, Beijing, 2021). This film was produced by CoFutures (Oslo, Norway) and got financial support as well as research support from the University of Oslo. His most recent finished project is ‘Epitaph’, a short film, which was shown in the NFDC Film Bazaar Viewing Room, 2023. Right now, he is busy finishing his documentary ‘Aliens of the Same World- India’s Speculative Futures’, funded by the European Union (EU). |
