Day 1: Developing Your First Film (Fiction Focus)

First 2 hours: How to approach short fiction and feature fiction filmmaking

• Short fiction emphasis: Focus on ending, twists, surprises and setups
• Importance of shooting in live locations to showcase cinematic and visual quality
• Capturing “the scale of life in your camera”

Feature film focus: Pitching strategies and developing concepts

• How to craft compelling loglines for pitches
• Learning how to structure a screenplay from a story.
• Understanding genre elements (horror, fantasy, investigation, thriller)

Day 2: Series Writing and Directing

• Deep dive into series writing mechanics and structure
• Writer’s room collaboration and how it works
• Episode structuring: A, B, C story arcs across episodes
• Character arc development
• Specific examples from Paatal Lok Season 1 adaptation process
• Understanding finite series writing vs. infinite television writing
• Directing and showrunning a series

Workshop Requirements:

• Submit 1-4 page synopsis with intended logline by February 14th
• Individual project feedback session (approximately 10/15 minutes each)
• Projects must be registered concepts ready for development
• Even if you don’t have a project but are keen to learn how to approach directing
