Speaker: Sumit Purohit

Designation:  Filmmaker, Writer, Editor, & Visual Artist

Bio: Sumit Purohit is a filmmaker, writer, editor, and visual artist. In 2020, he wrote and edited Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story, a 10-part series that became a landmark in Indian streaming. A BAFTA Breakthrough India honouree, Sumit also co-wrote the Hindi film Bangistan, a black comedy, and Amazon Prime Video’s International Emmy-nominated original series Inside Edge. He also directed the short film Vakeel Babu, which explores themes of domestic violence and the need for gender sensitivity among legal practitioners.
His recent projects include Srikanth, a biopic of a visually impaired entrepreneur, and Tribhuvan Mishra: CA Topper, a Netflix series. Most recently, he directed the Netflix spy drama Saare Jahan Se Accha, which released to wide acclaim and featured in the Netflix Global Top 10.
His latest feature Baaghi Bechare (Reluctant Rebels) is a satire that received a Special Jury Mention for Best Pitch at NFDC Film Bazaar 2024. The film has completed shooting and is currently in post-production. Sumit continues to develop diverse projects with leading producers, blending sharp storytelling with a deep curiosity for human ambition and absurdity.
